The single most important fact for any Toowoomba kitchen in 2026 is the law. From 1 July 2024, Safe Work Australia's national prohibition banned the manufacture, supply, processing and installation of engineered stone benchtops, slabs and panels, because cutting the old high-silica product exposed stonemasons to respirable crystalline silica and a rising toll of silicosis. That means the popular reconstituted-quartz brands of the last decade can no longer be lawfully cut or installed. We welcomed the change and we build only with compliant surfaces, so here are your options. High-pressure laminate is the value champion: modern laminate looks nothing like the 1990s, comes in stone, timber and concrete looks, and is hardwearing and easy to live with. Natural granite and marble are the premium natural choice, each slab unique, fabricated and installed by the licensed stonemasons we partner with under the correct controls. Porcelain and sintered stone, which are expressly outside the ban because they are not engineered stone, give you a thin, ultra-hard, heat and scratch resistant surface in large-format slabs. Solid timber benchtops bring warmth and are perfect for islands and butler's pantries, and they can be sanded and re-oiled for life. We will never quote you a banned product, and we will never cut a corner that puts a worker at risk. How we build and template kitchens for a highland climate

A kitchen is the hardest-working room in any Garden City home, and up here at roughly 700 metres on the range it deals with genuine seasonal swing. For doors we offer two-pac polyurethane for a durable, seamless painted finish, timber veneer, and high-pressure laminate, and we steer you away from vinyl-wrap near the oven where heat eventually lifts the film. Benchtops are templated after the cabinets are installed, not before, so the stone or laminate matches the real, as-built kitchen rather than a drawing. Porcelain is sintered at extreme heat for hardness, natural stone is sealed with an impregnating sealer to resist staining, and laminate joints are placed to dodge water. Every step is planned so the finished kitchen behaves for the long haul.

A flat-pack kitchen can look tempting on paper, and in a brand-new, perfectly square Kearneys Spring home a Kaboodle range from the local Bunnings can go together acceptably. Design and Measure

Is porcelain or sintered stone affected by the ban?

No. The prohibition applies specifically to engineered stone, and porcelain and sintered stone products are expressly excluded because they are a different material and are not reconstituted high-silica quartz. They are fully compliant, ultra-hard and heat resistant, and they are one of our most popular post-ban surfaces. We fit them in large-format slabs for a clean, modern look with excellent durability, all handled by suitably qualified fabricators.

How long does a new kitchen take from measure to install?

A typical custom kitchen runs around six to ten weeks from approved design to installed, allowing time for cabinet manufacture in our Toowoomba workshop and for the benchtop to be templated and fabricated after the cabinets go in. Natural stone and porcelain add lead time because they are cut by our licensed stonemasons. We give you a firm schedule in writing when you approve the quote and keep you updated at each stage.
